THE POSITION Unraveling the molecular mechanisms of aberrant tissue remodeling such as carcinogenesis and fibrosis is one of the key interests of our Research. Our Global Computational Biology and Digital Sciences department therefore applies network biology, data science and novel expression profiling technologies to support the finding of new therapeutic targets in these areas. As computational scientist, you combine strong data analysis skills with solid expertise in cancer and/or fibrosis biology. In addition, you are open-minded for working in an interdisciplinary environment, experienced in driving publications and have the drive to advance your own projects. The position is initially limited for 2 years. Tasks & responsibilities As Post Doc, you will develop network biology and data science methods to analyze large-scale internal, external and legacy gene expression data sets (including single cell NGS) You will apply above methods as part of an international high-profile collaboration assessing the role of genetic networks of inflammation and fibrosis in respiratory diseases Likewise, you will use these methods to analyses cancer-related legacy data (TGCA, Connectivity maps, GEO) and de novo sequencing for identifying synergies of state-of-the –art and novel treatments You will maintain close relationships with other members of BI computational biology, BI experimental researchers and external international collaborators for data interpretation and data presentation As a result you generate data-driven biological hypotheses that can be tested experimentally You will drive the publication process in the above areas Requirements Doctoral degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, (Bio)physics/-mathematics, Biochemistry/Biology or similar with strong quantitative and numeric focus Ability to numerically process complex and large data sets Good programming skills (R/Bioconductor and/or Python preferred, Linux is a plus) Experience in analyzing next-generation sequencing data sets using network biology Scientific publication record in applied bioinformatics Familiarity with single cell NGS analyses and other –omics techniques is a plus, but not essential WHY BOEHRINGER INGELHEIM?
